MAU11001 Mathematics, statistics and computation (Michaelmas term 2023)

The module mathematics, statistics and computation introduces the basic mathematical concepts necessary for science students. It is divided into three parts: A calculus part, a discrete part and a statistics part. I will teach the discrete part.

Content

The discrete part of the module covers sequences, vectors, matrices and some of their applications in science. The course does not follow a book completely, but reading Biocalculus: Calculus, Probability, and Statistics for the Life Sciences by James Stewart and Troy Day is advisable to get a different perspective.

All information including exercise sheets and assignments may be found on blackboard.

Assessment

The module will be assessed by a midterm assignment and a final exam.
